Kernersville, NC (June 2nd, 2014) Gray Gaulding looked for better results at Bowman Gray in the second half of his double header weekend. Gaulding who raced in the Lucas Oil 200 at Dover International Speedway on Friday night would be one of four double duty drivers this weekend.
In Saturday’s single 90 minute practice session, Gaulding set atop the charts for more than half of the session and continued to improve in race trim. When the red and black flag flew signaling the end of practice Gaulding sat 8th on the speed charts. “We sat 1st for a long time” said Gaulding “When everyone else did mock qualifying runs in started knocking us down and someone pull up in front of me when we did ours. It’s a long race and I know we have an awesome car in race trim and that’s what it will take tonight.”
Gaulding was the 11th car to take time in qualifying and with a time of 14.643 would line his No.20 Krispy Kreme Chevrolet on the inside of row two in 3rd.
When the green flag dropped for the NASCAR Hall of Fame 150, Gaulding set his sights on the checkered flag and moved into 2nd by lap 7. Gaulding would hold on to 2nd though ten more caution periods.
Gray while running second set up to pass the leader on the exit of turn two with seven laps to go when he got help from behind and went spinning through the grass. Gaulding was able to maintain and blend back in. With a quick caution coming out Gray lined up 10th for a green, white, checkered restart. When the green flag was displayed for the final time Gaulding was a man on a mission coming back to 6th.
Next time out for Gray Gaulding and the No. 20 Krispy Kreme Chevrolet team will be the Pensacola 150 at the Five Flags Speedway on June 13th, 2014.
Gray Gaulding’s Post-Race Thoughts:
“I felt like it was a really day at Bowman Gray the entire team worked extremely hard at it showed on track. Myself and the 41 was in our own race and I ran a few inches from his bumper for over 140 laps. I thought we had a shot at it but unfortunately got turned around but it’s the nature of the beast racing at Bowman Gray.”
Doug Howe’s Post-Race Thoughts:
“I was very happy with the way everything went all day long. These guys worked hard and it showed on track. Gray did an excellent job showing patience and maturity.”
