Kernersville, N.C. (August 3rd, 2014) Gray Gaulding made his fourth start as the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West combine at Iowa Speedway. After two strong practice sessions and a solid qualifying effort,

Gaulding was able to compete inside the top-10 for most of Friday’s Autolite Iridium XP 150 before ultimately bringing home a 13th place finish.

After running seventh in both of Friday’s practice sessions, Gaulding and the Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Chevrolet team looked to keep the momentum rolling in qualifying. After going out 39th out of 43 cars, Gaulding posted the 10th quickest time and would line up his Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Chevrolet on the outside of row five. When the green flag flew for the Autolite Iridium XP 150 just after 8:00pm, Gaulding had hoped to keep his momentum on the outside groove and make up some early ground, knowing there would be a halfway break at or near the conclusion of lap 75. Gaulding was able to clear the first car in turn one of lap one and move into 9th, as the field started to settle down. After the halfway break, Gaulding continued to run just inside the top-10, but came across the radio at lap 92 saying his car was getting tight in the middle when he got back to the gas and would slip back a few spots. After a late race caution came out with less than 15 laps to go, Gaulding restarted 15th and was able to pick up a few positions and bring home a 12th place finish.

From the Driver’s Seat with Gray Gaulding: “We had a solid Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Chevrolet in practice, even sat atop the board for well over half of final practice. We started off really good in the race, but just got too tight as the race went on. I’m looking forward to Watkins Glen, I love road racing and know we can be a contender at both The Glen and VIR.”

On top of Box with Crew Chief Doug Howe: “Gray and everyone on the Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

Chevrolet team worked hard for this. We had a really good car in race trim during both practice sessions, but as the day went on and the race track changed with the added NASCAR Nationwide series rubber, we got too tight. We will get back to the shop and review our notes and get better for next time.”
